When Arvin Samadabadi invested in a 22-unit multifamily complex in Atlanta at age 21, his experience as a limited partner (LP) gave him a cold reality shot of how some passive real estate investors are treated. “There was no transparency,” Arvin said. “I didn’t get timely communications. When you’re an LP, transparency and communication are crucial.”
Arvin, who in April 2024 became PassiveInvesting.com’s investor relations associate covering the Southeast, believes being an LP helped prepare him for his latest role. “It highlighted what I wanted as an investor and never received,” he said. “An investor needs communication during the good and bad times. My experience as an LP motivates me to be available and accessible and operate with transparency. My goal is to keep our investors updated on their investments and the latest trends in the marketplace.”
Moving to the U.S., the Land of Opportunities
Arvin immigrated to Atlanta with his family from Iran’s capital, Tehran, when he was 12. “My parents wanted the best for us,” Arvin said. “For them, it’s been a real sacrifice. They said goodbye to their family, they said goodbye to their business, and they had to start again from scratch. It has not been easy for them, but it has been the best decision they could have made as parents to get us to the land of opportunities.” As far back as Arvin can remember, he’s always had a passion for real estate. But his interest went into overdrive when, at 16, he read Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad. “This piqued my interest and led me to start consuming real estate content. I frequently watched Bigger Pockets and experts discussing real estate investing on YouTube. I went to college and earned a degree in computer information systems, but that was never my primary plan. It was always my backup plan, and I just wanted to get that degree to make my mom proud of me. However, my true passion had always been to work in the real estate field.”
More Experts, More Potential
At 26, Arvin has been working in the real estate industry for almost five years. Before joining PassiveInvesting.com, he worked as an investor relations associate for a residential real estate development company based in Florida. “The company was relatively small,” he said. “I was becoming frustrated by the lack of growth available to me. I was looking for a company with more potential for growth—a company where I would be around more experts. PassiveInvesting.com was one of the YouTube channels from which I had consumed some content, so I thought, why not apply?”
Success in Business is a Team Effort
Arvin is ecstatic that he’s now part of the PassiveInvesting.com team. “Managing Partners Dan Handford and Danny Randazzo have rich backgrounds in scaling businesses, financial analysis, and underwriting,” Arvin said. “Rob (Rob Gallo, Director, Investor Relations) used to be a consultant for quite a while and is also a limited partner in many real estate projects prior to and since joining PassiveInvesting.com. I love working with him. I feel like I’ve learned so much from him already in my first forty days alone. He makes himself available. He’s always there to help and is a fantastic director to have. I’ve also been learning a lot from Taylor (Taylor Cu, Senior Associate, Investor Relations)—how he communicates with investors and discusses deals.”
Communication, Transparency, & Opportunities
For Arvin, the contrast to his LP experience is stunning. “Most real estate firms do not have the level of communication or transparency that PassiveInvesting.com does—from the monthly updates and the regular educational content to the quarterly financials we send out,” Arvin said. “They are the best in the field that I’ve seen. Another thing that sets us apart is the number of opportunities available in different asset classes. For example, usually, a syndicator mainly focuses on multifamily, or they focus on self-storage. We’re experts in many asset classes, allowing us to provide various options for investors. Unlike most other companies that try to push a specific product or asset class, we prioritize understanding the needs of our investors and then recommending an opportunity that is as closely tailored to match their particular requirements as possible. It’s fantastic to be able to present diverse investment opportunities to our investors.”
Keeping on Top of Market Changes
Arvin believes being nimble is one of the keys to success in real estate syndication. “The market isn’t static,” he said. “It’s always moving, and you must move with the market and take advantage of the opportunities that arise. To keep up with market changes, I listen to real estate podcasts as part of my morning routine. I watch videos on YouTube. I read real estate blogs daily. It helps boost my industry knowledge to serve our investors better.” Arvin’s mandate is to build and maintain robust relationships with PassiveInvesting.com’s investors. “I plan to be highly accessible through regular check-ins—whether through texts, email, phone calls, or Zoom meetings—whatever the investor prefers,” he added.
You Can’t Buy an Excellent Reputation
Arvin recognizes and is extremely grateful that his job is easier because of the reputation that PassiveInvesting.com has built. “Investors know us from Bigger Pockets, podcasts, and Whitney’s (Whitney Elkins-Hutten, Director, Investor Education) educational webinars. Whitney does a great job at providing value with her content. She’s not selling anything, and I think people appreciate and enjoy that. The people who reach out are already familiar with us; most are sophisticated investors, which is great. It makes conversations easier. The fact that people have already seen our company and content builds a strong foundation of trust, which is crucial in this industry.”
Success Runs in the Family
For Arvin, success is a family affair. He has a brother who is an industrial engineer and a twin sister who is about to finish her schooling at Duke University in North Carolina to become a physician assistant. Arvin loves to cook and eat in his spare time, especially Italian food. Traveling is high on his life priority list. He loves traveling and learning about different cultures and ethnicities. Last summer, he traveled to Turkey with his family, where he met up with about 15 members of his family who live in Iran. Following that, he traveled to France, Spain, and Portugal.
Helping Investors is its Own Reward
Arvin is excited about his new career with PassiveInvesting.com and the journey ahead. “I aspire to assist our investors in opportunities that match their aspirations, whether it’s financial returns, portfolio diversification, or lifestyle enhancements,” Arvin said. “People work hard for the money they earn, and they all have specific needs—someone might be saving for a son or daughter’s wedding, their kid’s college tuition, or retirement. When you get to see what someone needs and provide them with a great investment opportunity that matches their needs, it’s an excellent feeling.”
